Lessons on On-Line Safety

Hello! Today Mr. Hogue's class and Mrs Cobb's class had different lessons. Mr. Hogue's class did a lesson on safe passwords and then took acuity post test for quarter 2. Mrs. Cobb's class had a guest speaker, mr. Hodgson, from the Office of Information Technology at Notre Dame. He spoke about on-line safety. Both classrooms were sent home with handouts to give to their parents. Tomorrow the lessons will be flip-flopped.  Mr. Hodgson sent a paper that has a few links for you to check out. One of them is important site where Facebook users can go to so they can learn all of the new Facebook settings implemented a few months back. The goal is to protect your personal information. Monday we will continue with our work with renaissance players.

Renaissance Players - Continued

Today classes were moved into their "category" groups to discuss the impact their group (players) made on the Renaissance. If any student did not have their data charts complete, they did not get a signature and have not reached the C level performance for this unit's assessment. Monday will be the last day to complete this for full credit. because we are moving on to the next level as we work toward a Socratic Seminar discussion on Tuesday. That will be the B-A+ level of the assessment. Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to Internet cyber safety, safe passwords, and the Quarter 2 post Acuity test. The results from this assessment will be compared to your pretest results taken at the start of quarter 2. Do you best.

Renaissance Player Research

Hello! Today we completed research for the Players of  the Renaissance. Students will need to come tomorrow with their handout completed with 3 sources (see attached). Students used their devises and the laptops in the classroom to work today. Students also talked about what was necessary to do tonight to complete the assignment.

Foggy Monday

Hey! Welcome to the two new groups for the second semester. Your notifications should clear up once I archive the other groups. We will be using the same system as before in that we will take your Edmodo scores and transfer them as needed to HAC. Your Edmodo totals will not necessarily be the same as your HAC grade.
Tomorrow will be a BYOD day. So, bring devices if you have them if your parents are OK with you bringing them. We will continue our research and be mixing Cobb/Hogue classes to pull this off. With the additional devices in hand it should be easy to do. You will have one more class period only to gather your three required sources of information. If you want to do some more research at home, that is fine but not required at this time. If you get little done tomorrow, that might be a different story altogether.
I am requesting parent participation in this the second half of the year. So, please have your parent sign up using the "parent" code associated with your code. If your parent does not wish to follow along and or receive the email updates, that is fine. I will be sending out instructions how to connect if you are uncertain how to do it.
Have a great foggy Monday evening.

TGIF, Again

Wow! It seems like I just typed TGIF yesterday. Hey it's Friday. Today we reviewed the Reading Notes and fielded questions concerning the assessment on Monday. Actually, I don't know about Mrs. Cobb but I did not have very many questions about it. Don't forget to prepare. You can check the January 23 post for the study tips and the January 15 post for the text book pages. Those post dates are for Edmodo, of course.

Also, if you would like to follow your child's notifications by email all you have to do is join your child's parent group and go to account settings. You can check off the box according to what you want to happen. By checking the box for email and entering the same you can get an email every time I post. How great is that? You can check more boxes depending on your level of interest.

Thursday

Today students completed their visit to Renaissance Florence. Tomorrow we will review for the assessment on Monday. You should read the study tips from the last post and come with questions on which you may need clarification.

Wednesday Already!

Back to school after an unexpected break. Today we continued work visiting Florence. Most classes completed 4 stations out of 7 total. We should come close to completing the rest tomorrow.

*Assessment Tip: The chapter 29 assessment is on Monday

Study tips:

*The Reading Notes blank pages are on post January 17th and the chapter 29 text pages on post January 15th.

*The C level will contain the vocabulary terms and questions about the "players" of Florence. Each Reading Notes section has the players and their work.

*B-A+ level will contain questions whose responses may be found in your Reading Notes responses. I would suggest that you back up your Reading Notes with an understanding from the text and when we review the correct responses in class on Friday that you add any incomplete notes to yours. Two questions are review items from last week and are about vocabulary terms.

*Both levels are multiple choice.

Touring Florence during the Renaissance

Hello! Today we reviewed the assessment from the Renaissance from last week. We looked at exemplars and I believe students really understand the grades they earned. Students then continued their trip around Florence around the Renaissance. Student will visit a total of 7 different places. They were completing the connected reading and the reading notes as they worked through it. We will be completing our tour tomorrow! Assessment will be on Monday on Edmodo. We will be completing multiple choice questions for both levels. We will discuss this more tomorrow and post some study hints.

TGIF

Hey, it's Friday. Today we began our tour of Renaissance Florence. Of course, we had to use a bit of imagination but that's OK. There is no home work for the three day weekend and I have already placed the Reading Notes on yesterday's post and the text book pages on the day before. You do not have to do anything with them as they are there on a per need basis. We are looking at an assessment over chapter 29, Florence, on Thursday or Friday of next week. We will be working on the subject matter of chapter 30 next but will probably not be using the text book. We will be doing research over a number of players during the Renaissance period.

The Medici Family and the Renaissance

Hello! Today students continued to view the video about the Medici family students took some notes with a handout as they went. In the end students processed with their partners by determining the most important idea learned about the Renaissance from the video. This video was posted later yesterday on edmodo if students want to review it again.

Good Wednesday

Good Wednesday to you. Today we continued work in the Renaissance by focussing on the city of Florence. We watched the first half of a video clip and will continue the second hafl tomorrow. I have included a link to the video on this post. It is way past my usual limit of about 10 minutes but I am including it anyway for students that missed it due to make up assessments, who missed school, or just want to watch it again. This clip is posted on Edmodo.

Good Tuesday

Tuesday is under our belt and in fact, so is the second quarter. Today we text coded our chapter 28 assessment and now all that remains is for us teachers to grade them. That takes a bit as they are written responses. Hopefully, we will have them by the end of the week. Tomorrow, we will embark on the rest of our journey through Renaissance Europe and take a look at Florence. This was a happening place during the Renaissance and if you have ever been there, still is, so I'm told. I have posted chapter 29 on Edmodod for your home support.

Good Monday

Good Monday to all. Today we took the chapter 28 assessment. Tuesday will be the final day for make-up assessments. You will be given an opportunity to take any missed tests from the second quarter during this class period. Also tomorrow, we will text code the chapter 28 assessment.

TGIF

Hey its Friday, Yeah! Today students completed their Reading Notes and worked to complete their Cobb Webs for vocabulary terms. What was not completed has to be by Monday as that is when the test is. Remember, if you have missed any quiz in the second quarter you only have until Tuesday to have made that up. That is the end of the second quarter. See your teacher to make an arrangement.

Quiz Tips: The test will be on Monday and will cover the terms for the C level. The B-A+ level will include an explanation of the graphic organizer, on page 315, in essay format and you will have to make connections as well. Remember, the Reading Notes Support for chapter 28 are represented on Tuesday the 8th post.

Thursday

Hey, its Thursday already. Today students walked through the art portion of the beginning of the Renaissance and tomorrow will rap up the rest of the Reading Notes covering Trade, Growth of Cities, and Humanism. We will also be arranging time for them to work toward completion of Cobb Webs to demonstrate learning in the terminology area. The terms are located on the new Focus Sheet and are in the chapter 28 section.

Quiz Tips: The test will be on Monday and will cover the terms for the C level. The B-A+ level will be a full explanation of the graphic organizer on page 315 in essay format. You will have to fully explain every aspect of the organizer to receive full credit and that will include vocabulary terms as well in your writing. Remember, the Reading Notes Support for chapter 28 are represented on Tuesday the 8th posts. Any questions, please Edmodo Mrs. Cobb or Mr. Hogue. You or your parents are welcome to use email as well.

Renaissance Reading Notes

Hello! Today we reviewed the BIG IDEAs to be learned in the Renaissance unit including a quick review of the differences between primary and secondary sources. The class read and discussed the differences between Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance Art (28.2). Then, some classes were able to view some primary sources and determine from which time period the art came. Mr. Hogue's classes got a little further and were able to begin 28.3 and a little beyond. We will continue with reading notes tomorrow and are looking at an assessment likely Monday. Students should begin to reread the chapter in preparation.

The Renaissance Begins

Hello! Today we completed and discussed the geography challenge for the Renaissance.  Students then viewed a short video clip outlining the BIG IDEAS for the Renaissance. We then started on the previewing of the chapter. Students will be using a copy of the text in the classroom. They may use the copies posted on Edmodo for support at home, but please follow the directions on the post for how to use. Mr. Hogue's class also got started reading the text together and completing the reading notes, viewing photos connected to the readings. We are thinking now about an assessment possibly on Friday or Monday.

It's A New Year!

Welcome back and hello 2013! I hope you have had a good transition day to the new year. Today we began work in The Renaissance period of history. We started by working on a Geography Challenge and spent most of class time working on those. Mr. Hogue's class had nearly all the class time and your completed map and questions should be ready at the start of class tomorrow. Mrs. Cobb's classes will have a short time at the start of class to work on them. The challenge questions, map, and Focus Sheet will be attached either to this or my next post. As a new feature I will be attaching small portions of the text book to Edmodo posts so that you can have them at home as well. Once again, the attachments will be on Edmodo.
