Role of Church Study Prep for Assessment

Hello! Today students reviewed the 8 vocabulary words found on the test by working with "houses" and grouping words together which have connections. Grouping words together to understand relationships between them is an important aid in learning vocabulary. Students were able to work on the reading and the reading notes for a large chunk of class today and much content was discussed. Students were also provided the content topics for the test. Refer to previous announcements for other study tools including the monster study stack! Reminder....the reading notes are designed to help in understanding of the text, not necessarily the specific questions on the tests. Students will be given about 30 minutes to study for the test tomorrow, some of which will be whole class review.

TCI Lesson 3

Today students reviewed their vocabulary terms in class for accuracy. We began in earnest on Lesson 3 in TCI and just got started with section 1 and part of section 2. Students responded to the text comprehension questions as we went. Teachers modeled reading and thinking of the concepts on these sections and students were encourage to use the "main idea" and "add notes" functions. The assessment for Lesson 3 will be on Friday and students have completed a gallery walk where they worked on and then shared vocabulary terms with one another. A rather long Study Stack was shared yesterday on announcements that included the vocabulary and content questions. Also, a list of concept topics was shared on Monday evening's announcement.

Test Tips:

Vocabulary sheet built from a combination of a gallery walk and double checking terms against a Study Stack.
Concept topics: list posted on Friday the 13th.
Study Stack shared on Monday the 16th. Read TCI textbook and response to questions.
Reading Challenge in Lesson 3 of TCI.

Vocabulary Work with Chapter 3

Hello! Hope you are all enjoying our winter wonderland! Today we continued to discuss and front load the vocabulary words for chapter 3. Students completed their in depth study of one of the words and then did a gallery walk to record the definitions on their handout. Some classes didn't get all the way through the gallery walk, but will get those definitions tomorrow or even below on the extensive study stack for the chapter. Students should be beginning to study the vocabulary words as we will have an assessment on Friday of this week. If there are students who are leaving school prior to Friday, they should talk with one of us about when this test should be completed.

Chapter 2 Feudalism Revisited

Today students created a Google Doc on which they were to reflect on their preparation for their Feudalism test taken yesterday. Overall, student scores reflected many gaps in their understanding of the concepts and or the vocabulary so we have elected to have an additional review session today in which we participated in Cafe Conversations. Seven main ideas were reviewed and a poster created for each. They are posted on each of your class period groups. The review did not cover vocabulary as that is on your Cobb Web. The re take will be tomorrow and every student is eligible to participate. Your top score between the two tests will be counted in HAC. The test will be exactly the same except the order will be different as Canvas scrambles them from student to student.

Remember, your Cafe Conversations are posted in your class period group. Good luck and do your best. Just retaking the test does not guarantee a better score. You have to change something in your study method to fill your gaps.

Assessment on Chapter 2 Feudal Europe

Today students started the day reviewing for the assessment using their completed Cobb webs and moved to reviewing the big ideas with their sticky notes. Students completed the 30 question multiple choice quiz on Canvas. When finished, students either viewed the a video found on yesterday's announcement or read chapter 3 in TCI. Students not recieving a 75% or better will be taking a retake on Friday on the vocabulary words from the Cobb web only.

Review Day

Today students worked on completing their Cobb web and preparing for the assessment. Students also played a jeopardy type game for review. Students must have the Cobb web complete as the ticket to take the test tomorrow. See yesterdays post/announcement to determine study tools. Students will be given a 30 question multiple choice tomorrow to show their learning on Feudal Europe.

Assessment Prep

Today students continued working toward their assessment over feudalism in Europe. They worked on completing their Google Documents over the social classes, their Reading Notes questions, and worked on Cobb Webs. Remember, the Cobb Web is your ticket to take the test on Wednesday and if you don't have it in your hand on Wednesday, you will have to complete one first for your ticket. You may also want to build a Quizlet or Study Stack to help you prepare. You may just want to use your Cobb Web for the vocabulary but you could also make up possible questions over the content of the reading for preparation.

Test Tips:
Complete the two Google Docs; Complete the TCI Reading Notes that go with the online textbook; Complete the Cobb Webb completely; Possibly make a Study Stack or Quizlet to practice chapter 2 reading concepts.
You have had class time to complete all of the above. Tomorrow, we will have a little more time to finish and go over some of the questions or any questions you may have.

The following docs are available on your student Canvas account.

Documents:
Vocabulary Terms
Google Doc 1
Google Doc 2
Cobb Webb Form (Print option only available)

Chapter 2 Feudal Europe Reading Notes

Hello! Today students worked with their partner to complete the reading notes for chapter 2 from TCI on-line textbook. Students can log on at home by going to TCI website and using the login: Teacher's Email = jcobb@phm.k12.in.us User Name = ID + initials and Password = ID. Students will then be able to read the textbook and complete the notes in their google drive. There was another document added today that had one additional question for sections 2.4-2.7. This link is found in the Hogue-Cobb 6 class under the modules tab on the left and should be added to google drive if it is not there. (This document should be in your middle ages folder in drive if it isn't already.) Students were also reminded about the Cobb web for the vocabulary for this chapter. Students should complete all parts of this by hand, not in drive. This link is provided just so students can print it off if they don't have it. If all else fails, take out a sheet of paper and draw one:) The vocabulary words to use on the Cobb web are found on the Middle Ages focus sheet, which is in students google drive. This should be completed on the day we take the assessment which is likely to be on Tuesday or Wednesday. So, over the weekend, students should be working on the Cobb web and possibly the reading notes. Neither is due on Monday. Stay warm this weekend! FYI....All items that are highlighted in blue have links connected. Sorry, you will have to access Canvas for the links. If you are a parent, your only access is through your child's account. They will show you how to navigate.

Debrief Activity and Start Reading Notes for Chapter 2 Feudal Europe

Hello! Students today were able to listen to some of the music parodies found on the announcement from yesterday and on the module Middle Ages. We then debriefed yesterday's activity. We did have a lot of fun and hopefully learned something along the way:) Students then worked with the reading from chapter 2 and the reading notes. Students did not finish and should finish tomorrow. Students should also work on the Cobb web for the vocabulary words given earlier in the week. The assessment looks like it might be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Medieval Manor Experience

Today students took part in a medieval manor experience. You should have learned the structure of a medieval manor in that the different stations in the social order depended on the other for survival. That is the basic premise for feudalism. Included below is a music parody about knights.

Tuesday - Essay Completion

Today students completed their essay response assessment. They used their video notes taken over the days last week to build a case for their choice of impacting events on the Dark Ages. They also began work on the vocabulary for chapter 2. We may not spend much more time in class on the vocabulary so students should work toward completing their Cobb Webs outside of class. You may have some time in class at the end or when work is completed in class. Remember to use your TCI text books which you have access to on line. The login is the same as when you are at school.
